Fences

Theres's a line about fences in a Miranda Lambert song, "Yeah, I could love a picket fence if it wrapped around the world."

I think about it often. This whole town is wrapped in white fences. Some as far as the eye can see.

Others lead the way home.

Mostly I think of how they became a cliche for a happy life and marriage. Once upon a time all anyone ever wanted was a white fence and someone to come home to. So "clichéd" it became something to buck against. Something to avoid or dismiss as trivial.

And maybe that's true. But, I'll take the fences and the happily ever after. I'm happy to be living a cliché.

Not all fences are meant to keep you in, some of them are just meant to guide the way.
